Over 10 years ago, I received a call from someone named Heather Sweet. She wanted me to paint her pets. She had three cats and two dogs (Dachshunds). Heather was so nice, and you could tell she just loved her animal companions. We proceeded to pick costumes and poses, and the creative process was going on in the usual way.
It wasn’t until part way into the process that I discovered that I was painting portraits for a celebrity. Heather’s stage name is Dita Von Teese. Dita is primarily a burlesque dancer, and she’s been dubbed the current day “Queen of Burlesque“. She’s also a fashion designer, singer, model, and actress. Since painting the portraits for her, I have followed her career, and am so impressed by how she has created a revival of a genre. Most of all? I love how she adores the animals in her life.
