In the 15th century, side view portraits were more common than they are now. But there was a particular reason why the Duchess and Duke of Urbino were painted in profile; the Duke’s face (on the other side) was marred in battle.
But this Chesapeake Bay Retriever also uses the profile portrait to her advantage. She has a beautiful side-view outline, and looks more fetching than the original figure.
