When I saw the historical painting of this pony painted by Diego Velazquez, I knew I had to put my own spin on it. I am a sucker for a plump pony. My teenage years were spent at a horse farm, and I had my own pony; Hepty Hootie. He wasn’t quite this rotund, but he was just as adorable. I was also enamored with Thellwell ponies; very round pony cartoons painted by Thellwell the artist. The Velazquez pony brought me right back to my equestrian days. But of  course, now I’m an Old World Pet Portrait artist, so the rider is a cat.

This is the only image of this you will see on my website, because it’s in my licensing portfolio. But it’s been selected by the buyer at TJMAXX, so you might see him on the shelves there. There’s only one original, though, and this is it.

This is a sort of hybrid painting. I digitally mocked up images to create the scene. Then I had a canvas print made of it, and then I painted the whole canvas, using the mocked up image underneath as my guide. I’m selling this at a little over half the price of most of my original paintings, so it’s a real bargain.

The 16×20″ painting is on stretched canvas and it comes unframed.
